  Native Stories: Basically Factual
Known for engaging audiences through his unconventional performative works, contemporary Native American artist James Luna will enact Native Stories: Basically Factual with Maurice Caldwell and Raymond Lafferty at Oceanside Museum of Art on Saturday, July 10 at 7:00 p.m.

The performance takes place after the opening of Defying Expectations: Contemporary Native American Art from the San Diego Region. Created for Oceanside Museum of Art, Native Stories combines and refines some selected pieces from Luna's vast repertoire with new stories and songs. Luna's intent is for the audience to become familiar with his Pooyukitchum peoples, whose territory encompassed North County San Diego. Reservations are $25, $20 for OMA members, and $10 for students with identification. The performance is for mature audiences. Limited reservations are available and can be made by calling 760.435.3720.

In his performance Luna takes visitors on a nostalgic visit to his grandparents' kitchen, where tribal knowledge and family values came alive during the early summer canning of fruits and vegetables. He will invite visitors to understand some very basic concepts of Indian ceremony and dance in "We Become Them". Two very talented musicians will accompany Luna, Maurice Caldwell on guitar and beat master Raymond Lafferty. Together they will be making their debut as Luna's "Intertribal Performance Art Band."
